Five Reasons You Should Never, Ever Watch Dance Moms
Dance Moms is a show that garners a lot of controversy. In reality, the show is about a woman with a dance studio who does a lot of yelling, belittling and bullying and then calls it teaching. She’s someone who grew up dancing and she feels that it’s important for young women to take it seriously and be the best that they can be. Their moms are a little bit crazy, too. The show is, overall, a big old mess that some people just refuse to watch – that would be me. And for others, it’s a delightful trainwreck that provides ample entertainment for those at home who have forgotten that these little girls are real people who don’t quite have the same tough exterior that perhaps an adult might have when being spoken to by another human being in the same manner. With that said, we have a long list of reasons this is just not a show anyone should watch. Tune in to see what they are.
It’s Abuse
No grown adult should ever speak to other adults or children the way in which the woman on Dance Moms does. She’s rude and unkind, and her criticism is hateful and not constructive in the least.
These are Kids
Children are children; they are not adults. Even adults should not have to deal with this kind of hate and anger. However, these are kids and what’s being said to them in this manner in endangering them. Kids aren’t always able to bounce back.
It’s Not Empowering
There is nothing empowering about yelling, screaming and name calling, especially when it comes to kids. They’re not perfect. Positive reinforcement is a much better concept. You can be firm and you can offer constructive criticism without being so mean and hateful.
It’s Disgusting
The way in which treatment is issued in this show is nothing short of absolutely disgusting. No one should deal with this kind of verbal abuse, and it’s not teaching us or our own children anything. In fact, watching this show is encouraging this behavior to continue.
It’s Bullying
Plain and simple; speaking to anyone in this manner is bullying. It’s not the way that successful, helpful people speak to one another and we just don’t get the appeal.
